How to Make Colored Rice

Over the weekend I decided to make the Boo colored rice. I first discovered it through her preschool class. It is a great sensory bin activity.

It is pretty easy to make and I wanted to show everyone how to make it.

Here is what you will need:    2 cups of rice ( white works best but I have used brown before)

                                                    2 Tbsp of rubbing alcohol

                                                    2-3 drops of food coloring

Before I started I used an apron and some latex disposable gloves to prevent staining my hands or clothes. The staining process also does work on pasta.

I poured the two cups of rice into an old bowl I had. I measured out the alcohol and poured that onto the rice. I then applied the food coloring onto the rice. I stirred until the rice was evenly coated.

I poured the rice onto a waxed paper and let it air dry for a couple hours. I like to do it at night when the Boo is down for the night. I do that so she’s not tempted to play with it while the dye is still wet.

Voila the rice is ready for play time.

And that is how I make colored rice I hope everyone finds it helpful with making their own rice. Thank you for reading and enjoy. 🙂
