Why I am for the Use of the Experimental ZMapp Serum

Why I am for the use of the Experimental ZMapp Serum
By Nicole Hartwig
Over several decades the country of Africa has been suffering from outbreaks of the Ebola virus since 1976. What is the Ebola virus you ask? Well it is a very highly deadly and contagious disease that many are bravely fighting to survive from. It is a disease that is spread via bodily secretions and the fruit bat is its natural carrier. There is no known cure for the Ebola virus as of yet. The ZMapp experimental serum which was given to two Americans is showing promising signs of treatment. It could be debated whether it is ethical to treat patients with an experimental drug during an epidemic. When it comes to the Ebola virus I think that trying an experimental serum during an epidemic is ethically correct.
When looking at whether is it ethical or not to treat patients with an experimental drug one needs to look at the facts. The World Health Organization has stated after performing and ethical review that “it is ethical to offer unproven interventions for treatment of the dire disease” (Mohney, 2014). Also the approval of the Center of Disease and Control with the FDA as well allows some lenience for people to believe that there is hope for those infected. No one is making these people take the vaccine. It was the choice of the two Americans to attempt the usage of the drug on the basis of how gravely ill their conditions where at the time. To truly get a better understanding of how this drug works on those infected treat not just the gravely ill but the newly infected as well. We would have a better understanding of how the drug works on the Ebola virus at any stage.
To give this vaccine a chance provides the gravely ill with a ray of hope for treatment. Yes, it is ethically correct to administer the experimental serum during an epidemic. We owe it not only to those suffering presently but the next generations as well. Where would we be today if we didn’t have vaccines?

An unexpected journey

An unexpected journey.

Hi everybody,

I am back. I have been gone for a while occupied with other things. What is new with me? Well I have been pretty busy with my daughter and school work. It is a never ending vicious cycle of homework. I know I can do it though.

If there is one thing I have learned while starting my courses is that I have sorely underestimated my abilities in time management. I didn’t think I would be able to accomplish everything as well as I have so far. I can proudly say and I am not bragging but I am so far knock on wood an “A student”. I am proud of how well I have been doing.

I do feel like I have neglected my blogging for a while though and haven’t been entirely true to my word. I realize I can’t really make promises unless I can keep them. I know a no brainier right? Well It is something I have to come to grips with myself. Too many times I find myself setting a impossible goal and need to establish better time management skills. I know if I continue to work on my time management I could do just about anything.

One thing I have been missing lately is my crafting that I do. I just haven’t made the time to do it. I know that I can’t use the saying there just isn’t enough time in one day to do it all. Which is certainly not true. There is enough time if you just make the time. That is where my to do lists come in. I am starting to use the wonderful world of word office to get me started with that. It has some great chart opportunities with Excel or even just in Word. I might go ahead and share with you guys the templates that I make once I am done creating them.

Yesterday was the official first day of Spring. It certainly doesn’t feel like it. I feel like it has been an eternal never ending winter kind of like Frozen the Disney movie. It hasn’t stopped being cold or snowy for a while. I do think though that there are subtle signs of Spring that just have me so excited. I can’t wait for warmer weather. I live in the central part of the United States and we have not had a break with bad weather all that often. I am excited for warm sunny weather that me and my daughter can play in.

I have so many great ideas for the Spring and Summer time play it is just a matter of when the nice weather comes. I have been going a little cabin feverish. I hope that everyone has an excellent and safe weekend and I will catch up with you guys later. Happy Blogging. 🙂

A Wonderful New Year

Happy New Years I hope you all had an excellent holiday. I wish you all a blessed and wonderful year ahead for all.

I have been away for a while working on getting my schooling and home life on tract. The holidays have really turned things upside down for us. Me and my family are just starting to get back into a routine of sorts.

I have some wonderful things to post and share within the next couple days. I am really trying to set some reasonable and achievable goals for myself this year.

One of my goals set for myself for 2014 is to be healthier in my food options and exercise. Another goal I have set also is to focus more on my family and their needs. I feel that I could do a little better job in that area. I tend to get sucked up into my own thoughts and worries. I don’t want to do that. I want to enjoy life and have fun with my loved ones.

I do have to say I am glad that December is over. I felt like that was the month of bad happenings unfortunately. It wasn’t all bad though I had a wonderful time with family and friends during the holidays.

In just a few short days I will be diving into the world of internet college. I am really very excited to start and a little nervous. I am confident though that I will do an excellent job. I know it is essential to do well for my family and financial reasons. Wish me good luck on this crazy adventure I will be taking.

Even though I maybe busy I will keep in touch at least once a week to update and share things. I really have missed blogging. Blogging is very therapeutic for me and I love being able to express my opinions.

Although today’s entry maybe kind of bland I hope that you will continue to follow my adventures. I am very appreciative of my followers and fellow bloggers that support me and my site. Love you all. Thank you for reading and I look forward to next time. Happy Blogging and a Happy New Year to all 🙂

Hum Drum

Hello fellow bloggers it has been a while since I have visited the virtual world of blogging. I hope that I can in the future be a little more diligent about blogging. It is kind of therapeutic for me. I tend to be one of those people that bottle everything up. Which I know is not a good thing. I really do feel better when things that need to be said are either written or said.

I have some wonderful news I am going back to school to get an Associates degree in Health Information Technology. I am really excited to be going back. This is part of the reason why I haven’t been blogging lately. My adventures in schooling have only just started and I feel like it can’t come fast enough to start classes. I know it will be a challenge with a two year old but I am up to the challenge.

I hope to have some nice crafts in the next week to show everyone. I am working on a Christmas scene set for the Boos dolls. I am really looking forward to having that set up and ready to go for her. I am one of those people that really likes Christmas. I thought this would be an excellent way to enjoy the holiday. I have some craft ideas to do with the Boo. I plan on sharing what we are up to later in the week.

Well I guess that is it for now. I hope that everyone will have a wonderful week and I look forward to updating you all later in the week.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Images of Splendor

First I would like to say that it feels good to be posting a blog tonight. I have sorely neglected my blogging for a while now. I have been really busy with the Boo and trying to get things going for going back to school. You are probably wondering for what right? Well I am going back for an Associates in Health Information Technology. I am really excited about it and hope to have many options in the work force once I graduate.

What motivated me into going back to school are a great any number of things but the most important of all is my daughter. I want to provide for her the best I can. I love her with all my heart. I know you are probably thinking that is so cheesy but it is so true.

I have been working on some of my crafts lately but not all of them are show worthy as of yet. The one I will be showing everyone today is some clay made foods for 12 inch dolls. I also created a produce table for her grocery store that I am working on. I really hope to have that project done and shown sooner then later. I know she will love playing with it.

It is pretty cool right? I really enjoy making these crafts I find them therapeutic.

I have many more projects to come. If anyone is wondering the produce stand was made of popsicle sticks and cardboard. It was really rather easy to make. If anyone is interested in learning how to make it just let me know. I can post a tutorial on how to make them. I am more then happy to do so if anyone wishes to learn.

Switching topics I just recently took the Boo to see Santa! I didn’t even know that they had Santa in the stores before Thanksgiving. That just shows you how much I don’t get out. I am a little embarrassed to say. It was so cute seeing her get all excited to see him. She actually was a little impatient about it but she is two after all.

Well I guess that is it for tonight I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend ahead. Thank you for reading until next time. 🙂

Miniature Goodness

In this blog I wanted to talk about some projects I have been working on. I am really getting into the whole creating miniatures thing. I have always been pretty artistic and this is one way to use my gift.

I think everyone will find them kind of interesting. This first one is a tub of miniature popcorn for the dolls movie theater.

I took some cotton balls and a sharpie to make the popcorn. I ripped apart the cotton balls to make tiny pieces of popcorn. I had to roll them into little balls and then lightly color them yellow to give them the appearance of being buttered. I took the print out of the popcorn tub from pinterest. It is a very helpful source for miniature printables. I am starting to make my own templates for creating miniatures. I actually have my first one up on my website for miniature baby food printables. It is free to anyone who wants to make them. It is not to be used for profit in anyway. My site thecraftygreekmomma.com has the templates under the miniature printables page.

Another project I ended up working on was this really cute miniature sundae.

It was fairly easy to make. I found the dish at the dollar tree. I actually converted a stacking cups game in the toy section into sundae dishes. They where the perfect size for what I needed.

To make these little miniature sweet treats you will need cotton balls, brown craft paint, pony beads, and a dish to put your sundae in. To make the appearance of a spoon I used a broken off piece of a plastic disposable fork tong. It is a fairly easy project to do if you are feeling creative enough to do it. My daughter absolutely loves playing with these when she is playing with her Barbies.

I have a work in progress with making my daughter a grocery store for her dolls. It is taking a little bit more time then I expected but I am also throwing in some pretty detailed items. I will be showing the final project when it is all done. I am excited to be making it for her. I know when I was a little girl we used to have a supermarket from Mattel that was not nearly as good as the one I am making now.

I hope that you enjoyed the miniatures I shared. Is there anything you create that is similar to this? I am always curious to see what other crafters come up with.
